Vodka Diet Diary Part 2

This is the second week on the vodka diet. One thing that I’ve learned is that I really need to stock up on vodka! I’ve actually “cheated” on my diet twice cause I ran out of vodka in the middle of the night and had to switch to saki which was all I had to drink. I also accidentally drank wine during a toast. But other than that I’ve been good.

I feel good and thinking about not being fat has definitely made me feel skinnier. Another thing benefit that I’ve noticed is that my gums aren’t really bleeding as much! Maybe the antiseptic qualities of the vodka have somehow healed my gums? If the Vodka diet was created by a doctor I guess I’d ask him…

Effects Of Alcohol

The goal of the vodka diet is to stay in the Euphoric Zone without crossing into lethargy. To do this we have a simple formula (don't worry it's the only formula in the whole diet). The formula is: hours awake x 2 oz of Vodka = Optimal Daily Vodka Consumption.

So if you're awake for 16 hours a day then your ODVC would be 32 oz. of Vodka. It is important to space your doses of Vodka out by the hour so your blood alcohol stays in the Euphoric Zone.

Here are the effects of alcohol as outlined in Wikkipedia:

* Euphoria (BAC = 0.03 to 0.12%).

o Subject may experience an overall improvement in mood and possible euphoria.

o They may become more self-confident or daring.

o Their attention span shortens. They may look flushed.

o Their judgment is not as good — they may express the first thought that comes

to mind, rather than an appropriate comment for the given situation.

o They have trouble with fine movements, such as writing or signing their name.

* Lethargy (BAC = 0.09 to 0.25%)

o Subject may become sleepy.

o They have trouble understanding or remembering things, even recent events.

They do not react to situations as quickly.

o Their body movements are uncoordinated; they begin to lose their balance

easily, stumbling; walking is not stable.

o Their vision becomes blurry. They may have trouble sensing things (hearing,

tasting, feeling, etc.).

* Confusion (BAC = 0.18 to 0.30%)

o Profound confusion — uncertain where they are or what they are doing.

Dizziness and staggering occur.

o Heightened emotional state — aggressive, withdrawn, or overly affectionate.

Vision, speech, and awareness are impaired.

o Poor coordination and pain response. Nausea and vomiting sometimes occurs.

* Stupor (BAC = 0.25 to 0.40%)

o Movement severely impaired; lapses in and out of consciousness.

o Subjects can slip into a coma; will become completely unaware of

surroundings, time passage, and actions.

o Risk of death is very high due to alcohol poisoning and/or pulmonary

aspiration of vomit while unconscious.

* Coma (BAC = 0.35 to 0.50%)

o Unconsciousness sets in.

o Reflexes are depressed (i.e., pupils do not respond appropriately to changes

in light).

o Breathing is slower and more shallow. Heart rate drops. Death usually occurs

at levels in this range.

* Death (BAC more than 0.50%)

o Can cause central nervous system to fail, resulting in death.

Vodka Diet Diary Part 1

I've been on the Vodka diet for a week now. I decided to go on the vodka diet when I weighed my self and I was at 190 lbs. That same day I saw a report on the news about Eminem having a breakdown cause he got "totally fat" and weighed 212 lbs. I knew that was fat but was it really breakdown fat? I convinced myself that Eminem is short so that was why it was so bad for him. But I knew that 190 pounds was too fat and though I’ll never be as skinny and feminine as Ryan Seacrest, I have to keep my weight in control or I’ll die fat and friendless.

So I thought about it, exercise is out, I've tried exercise before and though it seemed helpful in the short term I just wasn't able to maintain a routine. So I needed a diet that complimented my sedimentary lifestyle. So far it's been a week on the Vodka Diet and I feel great, I'm definitely not fatter and drinking no more beer has made me feel less bloated. Honestly I do feel thinner and it's much cheaper to drink filtered vodka than beer. Even the cheap beer I drank was a worse deal than filtered vodka.

People think expensive booze tastes better! But it don't, unless you filter it!

Higher wine prices boost drinking pleasure: study
View Article
By Clare Baldwin

STANFORD, California (Reuters) - The more wine costs, the more people enjoy it, regardless of how it tastes, a study by California researchers has found.

Researchers at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and the California Institute of Technology found that because people expect wines that cost more to be of higher quality, they trick themselves into believing the wines provide a more pleasurable experience than less expensive ones.

Their study, published on Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, says that expectations of quality trigger activity in the medial orbitofrontal cortex, the part of the brain that registers pleasure. This happens even though the part of our brain that interprets taste is not affected.

While many studies have looked at how marketing affects behavior, this is the first to show that it has a direct effect on the brain.
So what do we learn from this?
Filter cheap booze and put it into the expensive bottles. It'll taste twice as better!

DO-IT-YOURSELF INFUSING TIPS

New breed of infused spirits instills natural flavors with optimal effects
By Joe Gray, Chicago Tribune
FOOD NEWS

You can follow the example of artisanal vodkamakers by infusing your own spirits, which offers the advantage of flavors limited only by your imagination. And a new book can help.

In "Infused: 100+ Recipes for Infused Liqueurs and Cocktails" (Chronicle Books, $19.95), Susan Elia MacNeal captures the infusion trend, urging readers to make their own.

"Mass-produced and overpriced, flavored vodkas have proliferated, and drinks using them have become so widespread ... that it's easy to forget that flavored vodkas, as well as brandies, rums, tequilas and gins, have a long and distinguished history," she reminds us.

Stating her case for the simplicity of making infused spirits, MacNeal sets out a standard procedure that can be applied to about any fresh ingredient: Put the spirit in a clean glass container; add fresh fruit (or other flavoring agents); steep (usually at least a month); strain, discarding solids; add sweetener (such as simple syrup), if you wish.

The recipes are variations on that theme, but MacNeal also offers some great hints:
-Vodka, rum, tequila (especially blanco or silver) and brandy are the best choices; Cognac and Bourbon also are suggested.
-Use good-quality spirits but premium is not necessary. "Middle-of-the-road brands are more neutral tasting" and will carry flavors better, she writes.
-However, do use the best infusing ingredients you can find: in-season, organically and locally grown produce; freshest, best-quality spices and cocoas.
-Choose a glass container that leaves little air inside, because oxygen can cause fermentation (a bad word in infusing).
-Get creative when choosing sweeteners (again, if you decide to sweeten). A sweetener such as lavender honey or dark brown sugar would "add another note of complexity."

Studies show Vodka is more relaxing than wine!

Reach for the vodka, not the red wine
By Dorothy Bonn

After a stressful day, a swig of vodka may calm your nerves more effectively than a glass of red wine, claim UK researchers.

The team from two London hospitals gave non-migrainous medical students 5 mL/kg body weight of chianti—equivalent to about half a bottle—or an equal volume of vodka diluted to the same alcohol content and measured the effects of the two types of drink on arousal and stress by asking the students to complete a self-rating questionnaire before starting to drink and 1,2, and 3 hours later. Neurologist Richard Peatfield and his colleagues measured the students' plasma cortisol and prolactin concentrations and body temperature at the same time points. Neither group of students showed any change in any variable except stress, which was significantly reduced in those allocated vodka.

Alcohol is a known anxiolytic, so the reduction in stress in the vodka group was not surprising, but why an equivalent amount of alcohol taken as red wine was less effective is puzzling. The authors suggest that red wine contains an un-identified substance that counteracts the stress-reducing effect of alcohol. Peatfield et al, who presented their findings in a poster at the Migraine Trust's annual symposium held in London, UK, on Sept 9-12, speculate that red wine's propensity for triggering migraine attacks might be related, at least in part, to its relatively poor ability to reduce stress, since stress itself is a trigger for migraine.
